For years I painted in a very realistic way with lots of detail and I struggled to loosen up my painting style. I knew I wanted to paint landscapes but I couldn’t figure out how to paint in a more loose and expressive way. 

I bought and worked through all the art books I could find about the subject and I took all the classes and workshops I could find. I painted and kept trying but didn’t like any of the paintings I made.

Getting away from the tight and very realistic style of painting was so difficult and frustrating. I didn’t know how to free myself from adding too much detail and I felt I was wasting expensive art materials.

In fact, some days I felt like quitting painting all together!
